Evaluation

1. In what ways does your media product use, develop, or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

My music video production i develop the forms and conventions of a typical music video as it has a beginning, a middle and an end and also has the typical title at the beginning and end as well which every mainstream video has in the media today.
it also has the punk rock feel to it without having the band performance like the typical rock video would so this challenges the conventions that make a rock music video stand out from the other forms and genres.
My media product is also a non-linear video which means that the scenes in my video are either repeated or not in order which also challenges the media forms and conventions as usually music videos are linear so everything tells a story in the right order and which makes scene to the person watching it.

2. How effective is the combination of your main product and anilillary texts?

The print artifacts which i have done match my main product as it has clips from the music video so they both tie together and also follow conventions of the typical CD cover. And they also have typical traits that are on most video covers such as the band name or logo, the name of the album, and the names of the songs on the back cover. they are effective because CD covers help with telling the story of what the video is about. the CD cover is the first thing that the target market would see before buying the actual CD. So the combination should be effective and it would enhance sales if the CD was actually on sale.

3. What have you learned from your audience feedback?

After my production was complete i asked several students if they would watch my music video and fill in an audience feedback sheet and from doing that i learned that i needed to use different transitions instead of tha same ones over and over again. Also i learned that i needed to use different shots and to not be repetitive all the time even though the shots i had used they commented on and said that they were very good. they also said in the feedback that the video needed to be shot in more locations and not just two or three locations to give the video more depth.
In relation to these i decided to used different transitions and to use different sots that i wasn't originally going to use but helped my video to not look repetitive.

4. How did you use media technologies in the construction and research planning and evaluation stages?

in my research and planning i used the internet to do my research into existing products in the media so i looked at music videos on youtube and looked at the things that all videos have in common e.g. titles (beginning and end) and also certain shots and storirs that are in the videos.
i then used the internet again to research into the band whose song i was using for my music video so i used google and google images in order to get the images and incorporate them into my work.
in construction i used the apple software 'final cut pro' which allowed me to put my clips onto the computer (log and capture) and then to edit all of my clips so i could put the music video together and put transitions into my video so the video flows with the song.
i also used soundtrack pro to edit my song again so the whole video flowed together with the clips that were showing on the video.

music video concept : howd ya like that?? by voodoo hussy.

Idea 1:

the video starts outside a church outside the gates, then the camera moves slowly in time with the music. the camera then tilts to each side repeatedly until the church doors open revealing the lead singer.
more of the music kicks in and the band are revealed one by one until all of the band are in the same shot, this would be a medium long shot.
as the video goes on the band are performing the song in different locations and only showing certain members of the band who are performing
in some parts of the song only the lead singer is shown and in other parts the bassist or the guitar player will be shown.
at the end of the video it would end with the lead singer on their own singing the last line which is "i think...you got it wrong" then i would have the shot shown at the beginning again at the end to give a seance of closure to the video...

Idea 2:

the second idea is just an acting music video with the story of a failing relationship, and is from the male point of view, and about how this male in the video makes all the effort but has had enough and wants to end things with his girlfriend.
the video would consist of them fighting and having arguments all of this shadows the good moments which will also be shown in the video...the last bit of the video will be when he actually ends things and the last shot is of her crying and him walking away trying to get himself a better girlfriend and a better life...

music video: how'd you like that by voodoo hussy

this music video starts with the sound of a film roll starting as if an old film was showing and it then shows the name of tha band in big red fancy lettering, this shows that they are a bold band and want to put themselves out there. it then shows gates opening and showing a carousel as if going to the circus or fun fair...

the screen effect all the way through is a sepia tone to make it look like an old silent film which also adds to the lead singers costume as she is dressed in a victorian style, then she starts singing and the camera shot is a close up and is pretty much for alot of the video showing that she is the main point in the video as she is the lead singer.

the video also has real performance in there aswell which is all set in black and white and is very much set in an intimate scene as if the band are rehersing for a show.
the video also has close ups of the other band members aswell as their musical instruments, but the camera always returns to the lead singer as if she is the ring leader like one you would find in a circus.

she also interacts with the band aswell directing them a little bit which again shows that she is the leader.

the video then closes the same way it opened but in reverse and its also speed up aswell as if we're now leaving the fair and its ime to go home.

This is the life by craig devine

This is the Life from Craig Dean Devine on Vimeo.

this is the life is about a family who have to deal with tha return of the father an tha person who has to deal with this the most is the young son.
it deals with the issue of a family member going into prison and how their family copes with that especailly with younger children
it also deals with how the family must adjust to life without that person when they are in prison and also hpw they have to adjust again once they are set free from prison.

all the wat through the piece the same music is used which can symbolise the wat in which the young boy may be feeling because when he 1st see's his father he does nothing because he doesn't know how to react as he is too young whereas his sister is very happy to see her father and runs up to him to embrace him, also the 1st shot of the father is a close up of him smoking and as soon as he see's his kids he stops smoking an starts crying, this shows his emotion to seeing his kids and shows that he hasn't seen them in a very long time

towards the end we see the family coming together and becoming stronger as they go bowling as a family and the relationship between father and son is restored

on the whole this short film shows a wise range of conventions and camera shots and also attention to detail with the story

RESEARCH INTO EXISTING PRODUCTS

TYSON: THE MOVIE

Tyson: The movie is a biographical documentary film based on the life and career of boxer Mike Tyson,
The film opens with bright opening titles that fade in and out and are each a different colour this could be used to suggest the different personalities of Mike Tyson as in his career we saw lots of sides to him. this is also unconventional as usually documentaries try and only have one colour all the way through, and again this shows the unconventional life of Mike Tyson.

When the film starts the director doesn't show Mike Tyson in his present form but shows him in his prime when he was younger and he does this by using archive footage of a fight that he was in when he first won the world title.
and also uses multiple split screens which show different pieces of the fight which changes the juxjaposition of the frame and also freeze frames are used inside the split screens. this is done in a fragmented way which also goes with Tyson's now fragmented mind as he can't really remember much anymore.
you can also hear the crowd noise which is amplified over the sound of the comentetors of the match, and you can also hear the impact of the punches which are landing very heavilly on Tyson's opponent , the director would've had to edit this in as tha original wouldn't have had it.

and also when using the archive footage we get close ups of both fighter before the fight which again would've been edited in because it wouldn't have been in the original, but it also shows the tension before the fight.

the split sreens then fade as a ring bell is sounded and the title of the film fades in and is a harsh font and is firery which illudes to Tyson's firery temper, which is dangerous and out of control.
it then cuts into more archive footage of him as an amature and also has pictures of him when he went to the 1980 omlympics with team USA. then cuts in and out of footage of a younger Tyson to him now in his house, the director also uses Tyson's voice as a voice over at times during the first five minutes.

JOHNNY CASH MUSIC VIDEO : HURT.

this video is about death and wanting to hurt in order to feel something and wanting to start over again but not bin able to.

the video starts with an medium long shot of him sitting down and singing and then it goes into a close up of him singing
then it shows the American flag, this shows that he was an American icon, that he was living the American dream.
then it shows a building which is no longer open to the public but was once open all the time, it was a museum for johnny cash that his fans could go to, this symbolises the end of his career as a singer.
he was also always known as the man in black so in the music video he is again wearing all back with sequins on them.

it then cuts to inside the house and it shows that it is cluttered which shows that he has gotten old,
it then cuts to archive footage of him as a young man (footage on the steam train) and also uses home video footage of him with his son which again shows him as a young man.

in the line ' everyone i know goes away' a picture of his mom comes up this suggests that he misses her and that he feel like he may have disappointed her at one point in his life and that he is sorry.

there is also a shot of hm at the dinner table alone with lots of food an wine and he then starts to pure the wine onto the table this could tie in with religious ideology as this could have been his last supper or his last hurrah as a performer aswell
it then shows him getting emtional at the table which shows that at some points it has been too much for him.

his wife also apears in the video near the end on his right hand side as if she was an angel watching over him and it also shows that behind every great man there is a great woman.
then as the video ends a montage of johnny cash starts and it also ties in clips of jesus christ in it aswell to show that both have sacrificed alot for the people they love but also that they both carried a burden on their shoulders for a very long time.

then the video closes with two different shots:
a picture of his first ever performance and a shot of him closing the piano and stroking it here we see simultainiouly the beginning and the end of his singing career.
